Bettws y Crwyn is a parish in a deeply rural area in South Shropshire, with a population under 200. Despite the scattered nature of the dwellings in the area, it is a vibrant community with good, if informal, communications, and an excellent record of co-operation. It is a caring community which is supportive of local events.
The pages on this site reflect the interests of the community, and act as a central information site.
It is a website that will grow as people feed information to the editor. If you have a business that you would like include in the ‘Services and Businesses’ pages or information you would like to share, please leave a response.
New posts will appear on the “Newsflashes and Coming events” page – click on this in the sidebar under the Home tab.
If organisers of events inform Valerie Whately as soon as an event has been arranged I will do my best to place it there as soon as possible.
Records of older announcements and events that have taken place are moved to the Archive pages.
Please remember that a web site is as good as the information received. If no information is received – it does not get updated, so please help by sending news and updated info.
Below is a calendar of events taking place in and around Bettws y Crwyn. It is maintained by Mark Bolton. Please let him know of any events you would like included. email: bettws@markbolton.com. It would be helpful if you send those emails to me too. That way whichever of us reads it first can update the calendar. My email address is valerie.whately@btinternet.com
Many thanks to Mark for taking this on.

Hi Mark. Only just noticed this. Usually I get notifications of new blogs, but this one slipped through!
Broadband issues are continually being raised at Local Joint Council meetings, where the county, BT and other providers are often in attendance. I constantly fill in surveys on this subject, and am fairly vociferous at meetings. I’ll let you know when the next meeting is – it would be good if you came along to add tho the outcry!
Could we put a plug on here for the Connecting Shropshire http://connectingshropshire.co.uk/ site, supporting demand for faster internet in the Parish. Completing their new 5 minute survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SBDR is easy and doesn’t commit the respondent to anything – but may help to encourage broadband providers to improve provision.

Yes – there’s a least me reading them.
Thanks Mark. You have made my day.
Just had another thought that might help you see what level of readership you have. There’s a plugin for WordPress that enables you to use Google Analytics to track usage.
See http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/
I use Google Analytics for my personal site and find it really easy to use. Have no experience of the WordPress plugin, however.
Yes, I do – having just moved in to Castlegate Farm I was happy to see a parish website that gives me some idea of what’s going on 🙂
I am so glad. We have some leaflets for those new to the area – have you been given one? email me if you haven’t and I’ll bring one over
Thanks! Fenella dropped one off yesterday, so I am sorted, but you are more than welcome to pop in for a cup of tea anyway 🙂
